Lisbon Marathon 2026 Date
The full marathon (42.195km) takes place on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The half marathon (21.1km) runs on Saturday, October 10. There is also a mini marathon (8km fun run) on Sunday morning before the main event. The full marathon starts at 8:30 AM on Ponte 25 de Abril (runners actually cross the bridge). The half marathon starts at 9:00 AM near Almada. Finish line is at Praça do Comércio in central Lisbon.
Registration & Entry Fees
Marathon: €40-65 (early bird to late registration). Half marathon: €25-45. Mini marathon: €10-15. Registration opens in April at maratonadelisboa.com. The marathon accepts 15,000 runners, the half marathon 25,000. It does not sell out immediately but early bird prices are significantly cheaper. International runners should register early to sort travel logistics.
The Route — Why Runners Love It
The marathon starts dramatically on the 25 de Abril bridge (the only time pedestrians are allowed on it). You then descend through Almada, cross to the north bank, and run along the Tagus River waterfront through Belém, past Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém. The route continues along the Lisbon riverfront promenade into Praça do Comércio. It is almost entirely flat with a net downhill — an excellent course for fast times. October weather is ideal: 15-22°C with low humidity.
The half marathon follows a similar riverside route but starts in Almada without the bridge crossing. Both races finish at the spectacular Praça do Comércio — one of the most beautiful finish lines in world marathon running.
Travel Tips for International Runners
Stay in Baixa or Cais do Sodré to be near the finish line. The expo and bib pickup is at FIL/Parque das Nações (Metro Red Line) two days before the race. Carb-loading restaurants: Tasca do Chico in Bairro Alto for bacalhau, Cervejaria Ramiro for a seafood feast. Post-race recovery: hit Pastéis de Belém for the best custard tarts and walk (slowly) through Belém. October is the perfect Lisbon month — warm enough for sightseeing, cool enough for running.
